Darynda Jones

Darynda Jones has quite a few books!

She has Charley Davidson series and the Darklight series.  Plus she also wrote a few short stories.  This is is all mentioned on her website.

I have not had a chance to read any of her books but I want to.   I may have to check out the Darklight series first because there are only three books.  Her Charley Davidson has tons!   All the covers are cool.  I love covers because they are a work of art and they catch my attention.

The first book of the Darklight series is : Death and the Girl Next Door

Death2.jpg

About the book: Ten years ago, Lorelei’s parents disappeared without a trace. Raised by her grandparents and leaning on the support of her best friends, Lorelei is finally beginning to accept the fact that her parents are never coming home. For Lorelei, life goes on. High school is not quite as painful as she thinks it will be, and things are as normal as they can be. Until the day the school’s designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it, standing outside her house in the dark, night after night. Things get even more complicated when a new guy—terrifying, tough, sexy Jared Kovach—comes to school. Cameron and Jared instantly despise each other and Lorelei seems to be the reason for their animosity. What does Jared know about her parents? Why does Cameron tell Jared he can’t have Lorelei? And what will any of them do when Death comes knocking for real? Thrilling, sassy, sexy, and inventive, Darynda Jones’s first foray into the world of teens will leave readers eager for the next installment.

Other two books of the Darklight series!

Now her Charley Davidson series – There’s 12 books!  12!!  I’m impressed.  Maybe I should read these too… I am not going to post every single book (Tempted tho! Maybe when I read them..)

First book:  First Grave on the Right

First.jpg

About:
A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time grim reaper.  Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

Are you going to read these?

A few movies that I have seen

Logan

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X somewhere on the Mexican border. However, Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are upended when a young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.

I love Hugh Jackman as Logan.  There will be some big shoes to fill for the role of Logan/Wolverine.  I am sad to see Hugh Jackman not take this role anymore.  Anyways, It was filled with action and also he learned a softer side of things.   Professor X made an appearance as well.  I’m not going to give the whole story away because some have not seen it perhaps.  I liked it.

Doctor_Strange_poster

While on a journey of physical and spiritual healing, a brilliant neurosurgeon is drawn into the world of the mystic arts.

I gave this one a go because it was Marvel.  Not bad!  It was a bit long but how Dr. Strange came to be was pretty cool.  I love how the cape chooses him!  Overall the good guys win.  Action, adventure and realizing what life is all about is the themes I saw in this film.

WW3

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war, discovering her full powers and true destiny.

This film kicked butt!   I was always a fan of Wonder Woman when it was on tv.  This was filled with action, drama, love, friendship and more.  I am so getting this on DVD when it comes out!

close5.jpg

A grieving man receives a mysterious, personal invitation to meet with God at a place called “The Shack.”

This movie made me cry at least three times!   I even screamed at the tv saying “you made me cry!”   I loved it but it tugs at your heart big time!  The entire cast was pretty amazing and the story itself gives you a quite a bit to think about.  Watch it to see what you think.  You may cry!

I enjoyed all these films.  I am glad I had a chance to watch them.

Book Review : Unnatural Souls by Linda Foster

Synopsis:

UNNATURAL SOUL – Linda Foster

It’s been almost a year since the night of the accident that should have killed Grace. Nearly a year since her brother, Ash, sold his soul to save her. She survived, but that wasn’t the end of their story.

Not even close.

In the months since, Grace’s life has turned upside down. She can move objects with her mind, teleport in a blink of an eye, see dead people … and that’s just the tip of the crazy train.

And that would be fine, really … if she had any idea how to control it.

Instead, she’s stuck in a body that does things she doesn’t understand. And now, the contract her brother made for her life is drawing to a close. Which means he’s running out of time before the demon comes to collect his soul.

Unless Grace can find a way to save him.

When an angel named Michael shows up with answers and an offer to help her, she jumps at the chance—and agrees to help him with his own mission as the price.

Then she finds out that Michael is working with another demon. That the deal she’s made … is no better than the one from which she’s trying to save Ash. And she’s faced with a choice: turn and walk away, or try to save her brother—by working with the very monsters who have nearly destroyed them both.

My Review:

The style of the book grabbed my attention.  Well to be honest, the cover is caught my eyes first.  It’s amazing!!!  Love love love it! *cue the drooling*    I want to own this book in paperback.  *hint hint to the publisher!*   Anyways,  I continue to read on and the story began to pick up quickly.   One thing after another was happening!   The main character, Grace was very determined to get to her goal  achieved which was to save her brother Ash.   (I love the names of the characters in this storyline!)   Throughout the process Grace learns of  some thing as I am not going to list all of them.  You have to get the story!  The major one is she’s caught in a middle of a controversy between Heaven and Hell.

Wait I know what you are thinking!!  ‘Oh no!  It’s another Heaven vs Hell storyline and la la la”     It’s not.  Believe me it is not!     I kept on reading it and it had me going for the next page after another.  It is quite a story!!   I loved it and I want more of it.  There are twist and turns.   I’m looking forward to the next installment!    Go get this amazing story today and you won’t regret it.

PS:  The cover will click with you after you read the story!

Dying to Forget Review

Disclaimer: I bought this ebook to read to give it an honest opinion!

Dying To Forget (The Station #1)

Author: Trish Marie Dawson
Edition: Kindle
143 Pages
Published: August 3, 2012

Overview
“…With trembling fingers, I reach up and touch the hard and chiseled contours of his chest while Ryan’s large and strong hands roam over my entire body, feeling and squeezing everything. I’ve never been touched like this before and my insides are starting to freak out.

“I want you, Piper,” he murmurs into my neck.

My mouth drops open in surprise and even though my brain seems to be telling me to jump and run out of the room, I’m unable to move, stuck firmly to the same place on the mattress. With my nerves on high alert, I glance at the door repeatedly, sure that someone will come bursting through it at any second but the steady thumping of the music downstairs reminds me that no one can hear what is happening in this room. No one cares that Ryan Burke took me, of all people, into a bedroom. That realization hits me suddenly. Oh. My. God. What am I doing here?”

Piper Willow dies the summer after her high school graduation but she doesn’t make it to Heaven or Hell…instead she finds herself in a spiritual terminal called the Station. She’s given only two choices: Return to Earth as the subconscious for a person in need of some outside assistance, or move on and spend an eternity lost in her own sorrow and pain.

Does Piper have what it takes to save a life – to be the nagging voice inside someone else’s head – or will she fail and end up lost and tormented in limbo…forever?

My Take
This story was quick for me but I enjoyed it a great deal. This lovely gem covered some major issues that teens go through but the main issue that pops up is suicide. This is a tough subject to cover but the author handles it with great care. I did think how or what could drive someone to consider suicide while reading this story but I was mostly focused on the main character Piper and her journey.

Piper is the main character who is quite an a regular teen but with issues. The things she goes through in life makes her unique and a tough cookie, but sadly Piper decides to puts her flame out. It was a heart wrenching decision. Things change once Piper ends up at the Station. I liked this concept a great deal! To have another place to go other than heaven or hell is quite interesting to me. I’m sure the concept has been done but I think the way Trish explains what The Station is makes you think there is another chance to be happy with aspiration. So what choice does Piper make? Does she go to earth as a subconscious for a person who needs help or does she spend an eternity lost in her pain? The decision she makes is quite cool.

The story was so good that I’m not giving you the whole thing because I WANT you to go get it and read it! Although I must say there Piper’s mentor who seems to be interesting. I am curious of his story. I wonder if the author will do his story but back to this book! One other character that popped out at me was Sloan and it was quite fascinating!! Each page of the story was filled with such wonderful writing as it held my attention in the late hours of when I was reading! I got lost in this story and finished it. The ending left me wanting more! It was a cliffhanger! It was amazing. I want more and I will have more of this Piper’s story.

The cover is stunning. It popped out at me when I was browsing online. I want those boots from the cover. Someone get them for me? The cover and the synopsis sealed the deal for me so I had to purchase this book for my iPad. I’m so glad I did. I would have loved to have a paper copy of the book as well. I enjoy having both copies: paper and electronic. 🙂
