I spy Teen books

Which one appeals to you?

Two girls. One wild and reckless day. Years of tumultuous history unspooling like a thin, fraying string in the hours after they set a fire.

They were best friends. Until they became more. Their affections grew. Until the blurry lines became dangerous.

Over the course of a single day, the depth of their past, the confusion of their present, and the unpredictability of their future is revealed. And the girls will learn that hearts, like flames, aren’t so easily tamed.

It starts with a fire.

How will it end?

Seventeen-year-old Bliss Walker has been stuck in a home that doesn’t feel like hers for six years. Ever since Mama dropped her off and never came back.

Then, the summer before her senior year of high school, two things happen: Mama returns out of the blue, and Bliss meets Blake, a boy who listens like everything she has to say is worth hearing.

It should be a dream come true. But as the summer spins on, Bliss finds herself facing a painful choice: between the life she’s always longed for, and the world she’s starting to make for herself.

You can’t rewrite the past, but you can always choose to start again.

It’s been twenty-seven days since Cleo and Layla’s friendship imploded.

Nearly a month since Cleo realized they’ll never be besties again.

Now Cleo wants to erase every memory, good or bad, that tethers her to her ex-best friend. But pretending Layla doesn’t exist isn’t as easy as Cleo hoped, especially after she’s assigned to be Layla’s tutor. Despite budding friendships with other classmates–and a raging crush on a gorgeous boy named Dom–Cleo’s turbulent past with Layla comes back to haunt them both.

Pranking mastermind Doe and her motley band of Weston girls are determined to win the century-long war against Winfield Academy before the clock ticks down on their senior year. But when their headmistress announces that The Weston School will merge with its rival the following year, their longtime feud spirals into chaos.

To protect the school that has been her safe haven since her parents’ divorce, Doe puts together a plan to prove once and for all that Winfield boys and Weston girls just don’t mix, starting with a direct hit at Three, Winfield’s boy king and her nemesis. In a desperate move to win, Doe strikes a bargain with Three’s cousin, Wells: If he fake dates her to get under Three’s skin, she’ll help him get back his rightful family heirloom from Three.

As the pranks escalate, so do her feelings for her fake boyfriend, and Doe spins lie after lie to keep up her end of the deal. But when a teacher long suspected of inappropriate behavior messes with a younger Weston girl, Doe has to decide what’s more important: winning a rivalry, or joining forces to protect something far more critical than a prank war legacy.

Fatima lives in the city of Noor, a thriving stop along the Silk Road. There the music of myriad languages fills the air, and people of all faiths weave their lives together. However, the city bears scars of its recent past, when the chaotic tribe of Shayateen djinn slaughtered its entire population – except for Fatima and two other humans. Now ruled by a new maharajah, Noor is protected from the Shayateen by the Ifrit, djinn of order and reason, and by their commander, Zulfikar.

But when one of the most potent of the Ifrit dies, Fatima is changed in ways she cannot fathom, ways that scare even those who love her. Oud in hand, Fatima is drawn into the intrigues of the maharajah and his sister, the affairs of Zulfikar and the djinn, and the dangers of a magical battlefield.

Review: The Code for Love and Heartbreak

Summary:

When math genius Emma and her coding club co-president, George, are tasked with brainstorming a new project, The Code for Love is born.

George disapproves of Emma’s idea of creating a matchmaking app, accusing her of meddling in people’s lives. But all the happy new couples at school are proof that the app works. At least at first.

Emma’s code is flawless. So why is it that perfectly matched couples start breaking up, the wrong people keep falling for each other, and Emma’s own feelings defy any algorithm?

Review:

This book took me a few days to read while juggling with a few other things on my plate. Hey life huh? Anyways, back to the book. I really liked Emma. Emma is a teen who is totally focused on school studies and her coding. She loves to code and thinks it is the best thing. She believes school is important and that love and dating isn’t that important as school. She also tends to be an introvert, she really doesn’t want to go socialize. Will these concepts stay the same for her?

Since she’s in the coding club, she springs up an idea and it seems to go well. George her good friend has some thoughts on this idea related to matching love. What could possibly go right or wrong?

During the story Emma begins to think on things. She learns things such as friends fight and forgive when needed, family is important and that love happens in different ways not just by math. She learns to open herself up a bit which tells me that she is going through the rite of growing up. (Heck you still learn and grow later in life too!!). Sometimes you find a friend that can turn into something more. It is possible!

I thought the story was lovely, cute, respectful, had a nice take on high school and it gave me a sense of what’s important in life. I did read this book rather quickly because I wanted to know what was going to happen next for Emma. I thought the ending was nicely wrapped up. I do keep seeing that this book is suppose to be a retell of “Emma” but to me it could be a combination of that and modern day. I think the author did her own thing which was great!

If you are looking for a quick, sweet and fun book that falls into the world of teens, then give it a shot.

Just to let you know: there is a tiny bit of bullying and a scare of health issues.

Guinevere

The Guinevere Deception
Kiersten White
Series: Camelot Rising Trilogy :Book 1
Hardcover: 352 pages
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Date: November 5, 2019

What the book is about:
Princess Guinevere has come to Camelot to wed a stranger: the charismatic King Arthur. With magic clawing at the kingdom’s borders, the great wizard Merlin conjured a solution–send in Guinevere to be Arthur’s wife . . . and his protector from those who want to see the young king’s idyllic city fail. The catch? Guinevere’s real name–and her true identity–is a secret. She is a changeling, a girl who has given up everything to protect Camelot.

To keep Arthur safe, Guinevere must navigate a court in which the old–including Arthur’s own family–demand things continue as they have been, and the new–those drawn by the dream of Camelot–fight for a better way to live. And always, in the green hearts of forests and the black depths of lakes, magic lies in wait to reclaim the land.

Deadly jousts, duplicitous knights, and forbidden romances are nothing compared to the greatest threat of all: the girl with the long black hair, riding on horseback through the dark woods toward Arthur. Because when your whole existence is a lie, how can you trust even yourself?

My Thoughts:
I just finished reading this book!  The reason I picked it up is because I have read previous books by Kiersten White and the story intrigued me.   While reading this story, it  made me think of all the other previous stories regarding to Merlin, Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere.   Some movies and television shows pop in my head while reading this book such as “First Knight”, “Sword and the Stone”, “Mists of Avalon”, “Merlin,”  and then there’s the “Sorcerer’s Apprentice (2010).”    It’s a bit slower pace in the story, so be patient!  I liked it quite a bit and it kept me what would happen next.   I could also see how Camelot was describe along with the waters and forest.

Here are some of my thoughts on the characters:

Guinevere is a quiet young woman who had not been exposed much to the world.  So she was learning new things and also trying her best to be as she can be to Camelot.  She does confide in Arthur on and off which was nice to see.  I am not sure how the connection goes between the two yet.  She also confides in Brangian, her maid.  Her maid is a bit quirky in her own way.

Arthur reminds me of the good guy who has the heart to make hard decisions. He is that one guy who does does the best he can for his people regardless to his own happiness. He puts others first.  That’s a big thing to do.

Lancelot is quite the sword fighter and has a secret.  You will have to read to find out. I  do not want to tell you because it’s such a good surprise!

Mordred reminds me of the bad boy who is on the line of good and evil.  He could go either way.  He flirts with Guinevere quite a bit.  I think he has a bigger role to play in this series.  I look forward to see what happens.

Merlin.  I am not sure what to make of him. I get the sense he is fighting a huge battle and will not let anyone know about it because he’s afraid to lose them.  I could be wrong.  I am hoping he turns out to be on the good side of things.

Lady of the Lake is mentioned but not sure where she stands yet.  She has a connection to Merlin.

There are twists and turn in this story which made me crave it more.  I want to know what is going to happen in the next book because you know there is magic involved.  When there is magic there is always good vs. evil.  Will Guinevere protect Arthur and Camelot at all costs or will Arthur take the role instead?

Go pick up this book and give it a shot to see if you like it.

These three books were read a while back.
I enjoyed every single of these books.
I wanted to share you with a brief summary of what I thought of these books.

Gena’s book – Shadow and Ice was different.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but the world is different and I got drawn into it.  I could not put the book down.   Knox and Vale just clicked with me for some odd reason.  I liked the storyline. It is not your classic romance, it has action and drama involved.   The cover actually caught my eye and I have read some of her other books in the past, so I decided to give it a go.   I did not read this book right away, it was sitting in my to read pile for a while and then some spark hit me in the head to go read it.  I am glad I did.  I am ready to get the next one which I found out it is already out.

Lynsay’s book – The Trouble with Vampires  has vampires!  I am always on the look out for vampire books.  I picked this one up from my local library.  The cover was eye catching and of course the word vampire was across the book.   I also know that Lynsay’s has quite a few books regarding to vampires.    Santo and Pet are so interesting together.  The story weaves a web of secrets, death, love and vampires.   It takes them a while to connect and both characters have their weaknesses.    I look forward to reading more of her books!

Jeaniene’s book – Shades of Wicked was quite sexy too!  I have read her other books and could not resist picking this one up.  It was filled with action, snarky comments, secrets and sex.   The character Ian and Veritas are intense with each other.   While reading this story, I wanted to know what was going to happen.   I could not put the book down.  I can never put her books down.  I love Veritas thoughts in this story.  Ian’s snappy comments honestly made me think of Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  (Yes I am fan of the show…)  Anyways,  the ending of the book was not what I expected!..oh my gosh…  It left me hanging. A cliffhanger!  I let out a squeal at the end.   I am waiting for the sequel!  Still waiting…..few more months to go…..and go!

Waiting.jpg

Josh

Hazel Camille Bradford knows she’s a lot to take—and frankly, most men aren’t up to the challenge. If her army of pets and thrill for the absurd don’t send them running, her lack of filter means she’ll say exactly the wrong thing in a delicate moment. Their loss. She’s a good soul in search of honest fun.

Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met—when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes—to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.

Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there’s nothing between them…right?

I have read all of these books. You can pretty much tell these books are related to romance and cute moments.  Yes it is cute and fun to daydream away of romance.  I enjoyed all of these books.   The stories are fun, the covers are eye catching and love!  Who doesn’t like reading about love?  So tell me have you read any of these books or are any of these on your list to read?  Let me know!

What the book is about:
MATT REED IS HIDING
…from his fans
…from his past
…from a failure too painful to contemplate
Most of all, Matt is hiding from himself.

VIVIENNE FORRESTER IS A WOMAN WHO GIVES HER ALL
…to her friends and family
…to her online food blog
…to the man she loves

Vivienne will try anything and everything to coax Matt out of his self-imposed exile. But for this to work, Matt is going to have to meet her halfway…

My Review:
Since I read “One More Promise” by Samantha Chase, I decided to check out her other books.  This one was the next one that I picked out.   To be honest the cover caught my eye! I then decided to read the summary of the book as I took the book home from the library!

While reading this book, I managed to read it in about three to four days since my time was broken up doing mom stuff and all that!   I enjoyed how both charcters Matt and Vivienne.   Matt comes across as a regular person who is trying to cope with his failed concert.  Rejection is a tough thing to deal with and since he is in the spotlight, it probably feels like everyone is out to get him.   He ends up talking with his manager as he decides to get away from the media circus.  So then he goes off to his friend’s house and does not tell anyone where he is.   He begins to be so hard on himself but that changes when Vivienne comes into the picture.

Vivienne is just a ray of happiness and wants the best for Matt.  She does her best trying to get him to see the brighter side of things. It takes Matt some time to realize this.   Of course, she introduces him to food since she is a food blogger.  I love this interaction between Matt and Vivienne and food!  It is so awesome.  I love how Vivienne is a blogger and does her photography and cooks!  I wish I could cook that well. ( I think my meals are okay.  They aren’t fancy meals or anything like that….)   Anyways sparks fly between the two!  It is so cute, sweet and may want to see these two last forever.

They do have have their hot and cold moments through the book which is gives you a great story.  In the end they both realize something about themselves and each other. This book left a smile on my face as I enjoyed it quite a bit.   Go check it out.

Series: The Shaughnessy Brothers (Book 6)
Mass Market Paperback: 352 pages
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Date: October 3, 2017

What the book is about:
Darcy Shaughnessy has gotten used to her overbearing brothers chasing away any man she wants to date. But a chance meeting with a brooding – and deliciously handsome – artist is about to make this holiday season one to remember.

There’s only one thing Benjamin Tanner loves more than his woodcarving: solitude. Then he gets snowed in with Darcy in his cozy cabin in the woods, and their heated feelings begin to melt the icy barrier between them.

With Ben’s need for privacy and Darcy’s love of family and social life, will opposites still attract once the snow clears and the holiday festivities come to an end?

My review:
This is the next book I picked out to read.   It took me a bit longer to get into it for some reason.

Darcy ends up going to Ben’s place in the snow and mountains to help him out with his work.  In the beginning Ben and Darcy butted heads but in the long run they really were attracted to each other.  It takes them a little while to realize this in the book.  It was interesting to see how they play off of each other and how they sometimes both jump to conclusions on things.

Darcy is very family oriented where Ben is not.  They are both stubborn and set in their ways too.  They both have inner demons to deal with and somehow end up telling each other that they needed to deal with it.  Neither one of them did not want to deal with it!  They kept pushing their issues aside.  Slowly but surely they do deal with their issues towards the end of the book.  My reaction to this part was like “Yes they finally realize it!!!  Now hurry up and try to get back together?”

I loved how Darcy reacts to Ben’s house.  Ben is quite a handy man and also has an appreciation for fixing up the home he has.  He has a gift for woodcrafting which is pretty amazing.  I can picture the whole thing going down but I am a little nervous about those power tools!   (I did take a woodworking class back in the day of junior high school and it freaked me out but I did it!)  When you get to the part in the book about the mantle, I hope you will giggle like I did.   That part was awesome!

I hope you like this book as much as I did!   Samantha does a great job with stories including romance, drama, family and problems.

Summary:
Dylan Anders is making amends. After hitting rock bottom, he’s got something to prove and this time, there’s no looking back. Unfortunately, looking forward has him trying to volunteer for a literacy campaign where he has to win the approval of the one woman who seems unaffected by his charm. He never expected it to be easy, but he certainly never expected to have to work quite so hard to win one woman’s approval.

Ambitious Paige Walters is ecstatic when she’s hired to recruit musicians for a literacy campaign―it’s her chance to prove she’s got the chops to make it in the family business. When Dylan steps in, she immediately dislikes him and vows not to let the fallen idol screw it up. But as the work brings Paige and Dylan closer together, their attraction grows…and so do their challenges

My Review:
Okay I saw this gem at my local library while searching for another book.  I knew I had to read it……because the cover caught  my attention.  The model is stunning. Yes the tattoo and the cute model caught my eye.  Plus the graphics popped out so well too. I picked up the book and turned it over to read the story to see if it would capture my attention.  Yup it did!

I checked the book out along with another and then had to haul butt to go get my children from school.  I wanted to read it right away but sadly I had to deal with a thing called parenthood and all that jazz.

A day went by as I finally to start reading this book at night after the kids were asleep.  I read the first few chapters and I liked it quite a bit.  I even squealed at a few parts in the book.  Eventually I had to sleep because I knew my children would get me up early in the morning.  Sleep is important.

The next day arrived and I did the usual routine with kids.  Eventually I sat down and read the book.  I could not put it down.  I repeat I could not put it down.  I had coffee, the book and a blanket.

IMG_8975.JPG
Cozy isn’t it?

I wanted to know what was going to happen to Paige with her job and her personal dilemma with her family.  Of course Paige has this major cool idea for work but it does not go the way she expects.  She has her ups and downs.  Why does it not go her way?  It has to do something with her family.   Ariel, her sister seems a bit of wanting to take it all the credit for the work and her father, shall we say likes to play favorites?   Read it and tell me what you think.

Dylan comes into the picture as he is on a path to change his life.  He joins in on the event that is planned by Paige and Ariel.  Somehow Dylan sees things  and wishes Paige would stand up for herself.  Paige and Dylan click really well!  I love how they first meet, it so damn amazing.  I can kinda see myself a bit like Paige in this part or perhaps I would be more shy.   You’ll see how they both click throughout the book and that they end up thinking on things seriously.   The way Samantha writes the story and how real the characters are,  you can relate to it!

I could actually see a bit of myself in Paige.  After all I do have a thing for reading, books and stories.    I also could dream of having a guy like Dylan…(maybe one day..)   I think musicians rock. They are so creative in their own outlet with music.  I’m getting off the topic.

I have to say one word : Cake Pops!

Read the book to find out what that is all about!

You bet I am going to get more of her books!

Then he walks into her life—more than six feet of rugged, hot stranger. Maybe, just for tonight, Mac can pretend to be a girl she’s not. After all, she deserves a little no-strings fun…

As far as Wesley Porter is concerned, one night with Mackenzie isn’t nearly enough. She’s a mystery he wants to solve—if he can keep her from running for the door every time they touch. There’s obviously some serious chemistry between them, so why is she fighting it?

As one sexy hookup turns into another (and another), Wesley is determined to prove they were made for each other. But Mac has been hurt before, and she refuses to fall for this sexy, ridiculously perfect guy. In fact, she has every intention of fighting it…unless he can convince her otherwise.

When Asher Jackson, the playboy co-owner of the Oceanix Hotel Chain, meets Dana Anders, manager of the gourmet coffee shop within the Oceanix Resort, he longs to strike up a good rapport with her. But to his surprise, his typical charm immediately fails him and he can’t help but provoke her with sarcastic remarks at every turn.

Even though Dana can give as good as she gets, she’s confused by Asher’s hostility toward her–especially when she harbors a secret attraction toward him. When she finds herself with unexpected bills to pay, Dana strikes up a deal. For a reasonable fee, the financially strapped Dana will pose as Asher’s girlfriend to drive away bitter women who are making his life miserable. Asher hasn’t engaged in a serious relationship since his heart was broken five years previously, so he thinks playing husband to a fake wife won’t be a problem. But as the relationship continues he’s no longer quite so certain. And as the line between false animosity and real attraction becomes blurred, Dana begins to realize that the one thing she wants is what she’s pretending to already have.

They say first love never dies…

From critically acclaimed author Kate Ellison comes a heartbreaking mystery of mental illness, unspoken love, and murder. When sixteen-year-old artist Olivia Tithe is visited by the ghost of her first love, Lucas Stern, it’s only through scattered images and notes left behind that she can unravel the mystery of his death.

There’s a catch: Olivia has gone colorblind, and there’s a good chance she’s losing her mind completely—just like her mother did. How else to explain seeing (and falling in love all over again with) someone who isn’t really there?

With the murder trial looming just nine days away, Olivia must follow her heart to the truth, no matter how painful. It’s the only way she can save herself.

I finished this book a few days ago.  I liked it.   I thought the book was going to be a bit boring but it had my attention.   To be honest the cover caught my attention first.  Then I read what the summary was and thought maybe I’ll give it a shot.  Well the poor book sat around since 2013….(Yeah my to read pile has books from all kinds of years….)

Anyways the journey that Olivia goes on is pretty intense.  One thing after another and her emotions comes out in wanting to forget all the bad stuff and hoping that there is a light for her at the end of the tunnel.   She decides to try to solve the mystery.   There were some moments that caught me off guard and some moments that were sweet.   I was surprised that I liked this story.  Give it a shot and tell me what you think of the book!
