Review: Midnight with the Devil by Emma Castle

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review!

SUMMARY:
What would you do to save a loved one’s life? Make a pact with the Devil?

In Diana Kingston’s defense, it was the middle of the night in the deserted hospital chapel… surely it was just a dream. She hadn’t really sold herself to a brooding stranger to save her father’s life, right? Then she wakes and her father is fully recovered and a mysterious letter arrives from the tall, dark, handsome—um, Devil? Yep, it was right there on the contract, Lucien Star, aka Lucifer Morningstar, that had been his name in the dream… Gulp. What would the Devil himself want with her? Sex. Three months of hot, sweaty, Friday night sex.

Breaking a pact with the Devil doesn’t seem like a smart move. So she’ll do it—but she won’t like it. Not much anyway. But she starts liking it – a lot—and every night they spend together, she likes it and Lucien a little more. Being with him allows her naughty side to come out and play, but Diana starts to see more than just a sexy-as-sin, rock-hard … er…Anyway, he might be Satan, but even he was an angel once. Kind. Noble. And she sees glimpses of that man still inside him… But how in Heaven’s name do you save the Devil from himself?

MY REVIEW:
Well this book was steamy. I honestly say it has been a while since I’ve read something this steamy. I admit I did blush at a few things! If you do not like really really steamy things then this book may not be for you. Remember I write reviews that I like and capture my attention. I ended up reading this book last night in one sitting, I could not put it down. I had to know what was going to happen.

The connection of Diana and Lucien (Lucifer) at first is what you think it would be when the deal being made, pretty straightforward deal right? They’d meet up and do the deed and be on the way right? Well, when they continue to meet each time, ,the connection between the two begin to grow for the better. It was pretty intense connection.

I did like the paranormal aspects to the story when Lucien used his powers.

There were even some funny parts that I did now see coming. Text messages back and forth was so fun to read! When Diana ends up taking Lucien grocery shopping. Just imagine! There are a few bit more scenes that had me smiling.

The ending I did not see coming!! My heart was like on a roller coaster.

When I finished the book and had a few moments to think about it, the story kind of reminded me of the tv show “Lucifer”. They are so similar and yet so different. If you liked the tv show Lucifer, you might like this book since it’s a tad steamier than the show. I really liked the book.

One word that keeps sticking out in my mind is “Pineapple.” If you read the book you know what I’m talking about. (blushes)

Well the author made an impression on me with this story.

The Library of Light and Shadow
by M.J. Rose  (Adult Fiction)

In this riveting and richly drawn novel from “one of the master storytellers of historical fiction” (New York Times bestselling author Beatriz Williams), a talented young artist flees New York for the South of France after one of her scandalous drawings reveals a dark secret—and triggers a terrible tragedy.

In the wake of a dark and brutal World War, the glitz and glamour of 1925 Manhattan shine like a beacon for the high society set, desperate to keep their gaze firmly fixed to the future. But Delphine Duplessi sees more than most. At a time in her career when she could easily be unknown and penniless, like so many of her classmates from L’École des Beaux Arts, in America she has gained notoriety for her stunning “shadow portraits” that frequently expose her subjects’ most scandalous secrets. Most nights Delphine doesn’t mind that her gift has become mere entertainment — a party trick — for the fashionable crowd.

Then, on a snowy night in February, in a penthouse high above Fifth Avenue, Delphine’s mystical talent leads to a tragedy between two brothers. Devastated and disconsolate, Delphine renounces her gift and returns to her old life in the south of France where Picasso, Matisse, and the Fitzgeralds are summering. There, Delphine is thrust into recapturing the past. First by her charismatic twin brother and business manager Sebastian who attempts to cajole her back to work and into co-dependence, then by the world famous opera singer Emma Calvé, who is obsessed with the writings of the fourteenth-century alchemist Nicolas Flamel. And finally by her ex-lover Mathieu, who is determined to lure her back into his arms, unaware of the danger that led Delphine to flee Paris for New York five years before.

Trapped in an ancient chateau where hidden knowledge lurks in the shadows, Delphine questions everything and everyone she loves the most — her art, her magick, her family, and Mathieu — in an effort to accept them as the gifts they are. Only there can she shed her fear of loving and living with her eyes wide open.

Refuge: A Novel
by Dina Nayeri  (Adult Fiction)

The moving lifetime relationship between a father and a daughter, seen through the prism of global immigration and the contemporary refugee experience.

An Iranian girl escapes to America as a child, but her father stays behind. Over twenty years, as she transforms from confused immigrant to overachieving Westerner to sophisticated European transplant, daughter and father know each other only from their visits: four crucial visits over two decades, each in a different international city. The longer they are apart, the more their lives diverge, but also the more each comes to need the other’s wisdom and, ultimately, rescue. Meanwhile, refugees of all nationalities are flowing into Europe under troubling conditions. Wanting to help, but also looking for a lost sense of home, our grown-up transplant finds herself quickly entranced by a world that is at once everything she has missed and nothing that she has ever known. Will her immersion in the lives of these new refugees allow her the grace to save her father?

Refuge charts the deeply moving lifetime relationship between a father and a daughter, seen through the prism of global immigration. Beautifully written, full of insight, charm, and humor, the novel subtly exposes the parts of ourselves that get left behind in the wake of diaspora and ultimately asks: Must home always be a physical place, or can we find it in another person?

Fitness Junkie: A Novel
by Lucy Sykes & Jo Piazza (Adult Fiction)

From the bestselling authors of The Knockoff, an outrageously funny novel about one woman’s attempt—through clay diets, naked yoga, green juice, and cultish workout classes—to win back her career, save her best friend, and lose thirty pounds.

When Janey Sweet, CEO of a couture wedding dress company, is photographed in the front row of a fashion show eating a bruffin—the delicious lovechild of a brioche and a muffin—her best friend and business partner, Beau, gives her an ultimatum: Lose thirty pounds or lose your job. Sure, Janey has gained some weight since her divorce, and no, her beautifully cut trousers don’t fit like they used to, so Janey throws herself headlong into the world of the fitness revolution, signing up for a shockingly expensive workout pass, baring it all for Free the Nipple yoga, sweating through boot camp classes run by Sri Lankan militants and spinning to the screams of a Lycra-clad instructor with rage issues. At a juice shop she meets Jacob, a cute young guy who takes her dumpster-diving outside Whole Foods on their first date. At a shaman’s tea ceremony she meets Hugh, a silver fox who holds her hand through an ayahuasca hallucination And at a secret exercise studio Janey meets Sara Strong, the wildly popular workout guru whose special dance routine has starlets and wealthy women flocking to her for results that seem too good to be true. As Janey eschews delicious carbs, pays thousands of dollars to charlatans, and is harassed by her very own fitness bracelet, she can’t help but wonder: Did she really need to lose weight in the first place? A hilarious send-up of the health and wellness industry, Fitness Junkie is a glorious romp through the absurd landscape of our weight-obsessed culture.

Music of the Heart by Katie Ashley

Music of the Heart (Runaway Train #1)

Author: Katie Ashley
Edition: Paperback
Pages: 368
Published: April 5, 2013
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent

Overview:
For Abby Renard, the plan was supposed to be simple—join her brothers’ band on the last leg of their summer tour and decide if she’s finally ready for the limelight by becoming its fourth member. Of course, she never imagined stumbling onto the wrong tour bus at Rock Nation would accidentally land her in the bed of Jake Slater, the notorious womanizing lead singer of Runaway Train. When he mistakes her for one of his groupie’s, Abby quickly lets him know she sure as hell isn’t in his bed on purpose.

Jake Slater never imagined the angel who fell into his bed would resist his charms by promptly kneeing him in the balls. Of course, the fact she seems like a prissy choir girl makes her anything but his type. So he is more than surprised when after betting Abby she wouldn’t last a week on their tour bus, she is more than willing to prove him wrong. But as Jake’s personal life begins to implode around him, he finds an unlikely ally in Abby. He’s never met a woman he can talk to, joke with, or most importantly make music with.

As the week starts comes to a close, neither Abby nor Jake is ready to let go. Can a sweetheart Country songstress and a bad boy of Rock N Roll actually have a future together?

My Take:
Story: A

Cover: A

Characters: Abby: A ~ Jake: A

This book was sweet, fun and an emotional roller coaster! I loved the whole thing about it. Music has its way with everyone. Everyone plays a different tune and sometimes those tunes can combine together. That’s how I see Abby and Jake.

Sassy, standing up for herself, sweet, and not afraid of a challenge is what makes Abby such a great character. I love this character the moment she steps on Rock Nation bus! It was amazing to see how she handled herself against all the guys that were on the bus.

From the moment they first meet, Livvy intrigues him; she’s so different from all the other girls. Despite his reluctance for ‘repeat sex’, he is drawn in by her crazy antics.

Livvy knows she has to step up her game to keep the hunky playboy interested. When she turns the tables on him, Tommy can’t seem to get enough. But can she keep up the crazy charade or will she find herself in way over her head?

My Take:
Cover: B

Story: B

Characters: Livvy: A ~ Tommy: A

This book made me laugh due to the fact of the things that Livvy tries to do to stimulate Tommy. You’ll have to read this because it was pretty awesome. Then there are some things that Tommy says that made me laugh too! Other times I was like fanning myself a bit. There is mention of sex, rock n roll and drugs but not to depths of heading for the hills. It’s just there. I liked the characters and how they have such sarcastic and playful banter between them. It’s a short story but steamy that’ll make you laugh. The overview pretty much sums it all of what the story is about.
