A few movies that I have seen

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X somewhere on the Mexican border. However, Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are upended when a young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.

I love Hugh Jackman as Logan.  There will be some big shoes to fill for the role of Logan/Wolverine.  I am sad to see Hugh Jackman not take this role anymore.  Anyways, It was filled with action and also he learned a softer side of things.   Professor X made an appearance as well.  I’m not going to give the whole story away because some have not seen it perhaps.  I liked it.

While on a journey of physical and spiritual healing, a brilliant neurosurgeon is drawn into the world of the mystic arts.

I gave this one a go because it was Marvel.  Not bad!  It was a bit long but how Dr. Strange came to be was pretty cool.  I love how the cape chooses him!  Overall the good guys win.  Action, adventure and realizing what life is all about is the themes I saw in this film.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war, discovering her full powers and true destiny.

This film kicked butt!   I was always a fan of Wonder Woman when it was on tv.  This was filled with action, drama, love, friendship and more.  I am so getting this on DVD when it comes out!

A grieving man receives a mysterious, personal invitation to meet with God at a place called “The Shack.”

This movie made me cry at least three times!   I even screamed at the tv saying “you made me cry!”   I loved it but it tugs at your heart big time!  The entire cast was pretty amazing and the story itself gives you a quite a bit to think about.  Watch it to see what you think.  You may cry!

I enjoyed all these films.  I am glad I had a chance to watch them.

I know I haven’t been able to keep up with the blog since life is always busy!

So my mini update is movies!  I managed to see 4 new movies.

First off is: Star Trek: Beyond

Basic plot is: The USS Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

I liked this film as I liked the other two.  The journey continues on.  The adventure was fascinating and the action kept me on my toes!   The whole cast is awesome.  The friendship between Kirk and Spock is just really well done here.  I love how there was conflict, drama and action.  Even the new character being introduced was cool too.

Next up:

Now You See Me 2

Plot: The Four Horsemen resurface and are forcibly recruited by a tech genius to pull off their most impossible heist yet.

Well I loved the first one.  This second one was pretty good too.  Although I have to confess it was weird seeing Daniel Radcliffe in this film as the bad guy.  There were a few surprises that popped up which I thought were great.  I love the twist and turns and power of magic (misdirection!).  It’s a must see.

Third movie is:

Batman vs. Superman

This film was interesting.  Basically Batman goes after Superman and during this process Lex Luthor decides to join in and create something evil.  (Isn’t that what the bad guy does?)  I think this film was a little slow for my taste but once the action started up it was great.  I loved how Batman and Superman had some similarties and differences.   When Diana (aka Wonder Woman) comes into the picture, that was epic!     My emotions were rooting for the good guys as always and there were a few sad parts.   Nicely done.

Last Moive:

Underworld: Blood Wars

Plot: Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) fights to end the eternal war between the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her.

I’ve seen all the Underworld movies and I had to see this one.  Of course I’m a fan of what adventure Selene will go on next.  The war continues on between vampires and lycans.  Selene doesn’t want anything to do with it and yet both sides want to use her.   I watched the film as the action was pretty good.  I enjoyed all the characters.   David  (Theo James)  is quite an interesting character as the story does focus on him for a tiny bit.   There are also northern vampires coven which is way north and I thought that was pretty fascinating.  Vampires with white hair!   It’s a must see I think if you are fan of the earlier films.  Once again Selene kicks butt in many ways.

Three Movie Reviews

Effie Gray

A look at the scandalous love triangle between Victorian art critic John Ruskin, his teenage bride Effie Gray, and Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais.

My Take:   This was a long movie but interesting.  It takes place back in time as Effie marries John as the marriage is not the best.   It was a little slow but interesting to see how the times were set up.  I felt bad for Effie of what she was going through.  You could see how women could have been treated back then and fall into depression or worse.   I must say that  the ending was kick ass.  I loved how Effie took charge at the end.

An Education

A coming-of-age story about a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London, and how her life changes with the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age.

My Take :  Well the cover of the movie caught me and the story.  I thought this would be a cute love story.  Boy I was wrong.  It was geared more towards of a girl teenager and her choices in life during the 1960s.   The costumes were great and the storyline was interesting.   It was a little long in some parts but overall good.

Easy Virtue

A young Englishman marries a glamorous American. When he brings her home to meet the parents, she arrives like a blast from the future – blowing their entrenched British stuffiness out the window.

My Take:   Stunning cover and fun story!  Love the era.  Anyways the story was really good. Jessica Biel plays the American who heads home with her new Englishman husband as the family is in shock.   It’s a warm and cold relationship with the family.  There were some funny parts and the dresses! I love love love the dresses.  I wanted all of Jessica Biel’s outfits in this film.  Even the car and motorcycle was awesome.   Colin Firth is also in this film which I adore.  The man is cool as a cucumber.  There is something about how he plays his character in this film really well.   You’ll like it.   There was one scene where Colin actually dances and I loved it.   Yes I know..I have a thing for dancing.

If I could rank all these movies…

#1 favorite:  Easy Virtue

#2 favorite:  So Education

#3 favorite:  Effie Gray

So go check  these historical movies out today and tell me what you think of them and see if my favorites match up yours!

Thoughts of Thursday

Current Song stuck in my head:  Earth Angel – Penguins  (Yes – the song from Back from the Future of the Enchantment : Under the Sea Dance.  The movie was awesome and will continue to be awesome!)

Last movie I saw: Jurassic World and DeadPool

Thoughts on the movies:  Jurassic World was awesome!  Action and dinosaurs!  Chris Pratt played his character well.  It was an interesting concept.  I had a hunch on a few parts of the movie and knew the one character was going to die.

DeadPool – Ryan Reynolds!!!!!!!  Do I need to say more?

Beauty and the Clockwork Beast by Nancy Campbell Allen

Just like in the classic”Beauty and the Beast, “this Steampunk Romance features an unlikely love story.

The Lord of Blackwell Manor, Miles, is plagued by a family curse that changes him into a shape-shifting wolf every month during the full moon. Lucy-a smart, attractive, and well-respected botanist-travels to Blackwell Manor to take care of her sick cousin, Kate, who is married to Miles’s younger brother. For Lucy, the trip is a welcomed respite from her work and recent discovery-a breakthrough serum that could eliminate the scourge of vampires from London.

However, Lucy finds more than she bargained for when she arrives at the Manor. Miles, who is brash and inhospitable, does not take kindly to visitors. He is still unsettled by the mysterious death of his newlywed wife. And then there’s Marie, Miles’s sister, who was attacked and murdered just weeks earlier. Miles is horrified to think that he might be to blame for the deaths.  And who is the ghost that haunt the halls? Lucy is convinced that the death of Miles’s wife and sister-as well as her cousin’s mysterious illness-are tied together, but how?

Lady Charlesworth has her eye on inheriting Blackwell Manor for her family. Could her daughter, Candice, or her son, Arthur, have had a hand in the mysterious deaths? The clues make a vampire suspect highly likely.

During her investigation, Lucy finds herself caring deeply for Miles, but he fights to keep his distance in order to protect Lucy from his family’s secret. And, yet, he feels attracted toward the woman who is able to look past the fearsome-looking scar that has marred his handsome face.  With no other option, Miles and Lucy must work together if they are to find the answer to the mysteries at the Manor. But that’s not all Lucy wants to solve. There’s a deeper mystery behind Miles. Can she solve that, too? Ultimately, she must decide if she can love the man, beast and all.

Beauty routine.   I have always struggled with beauty routine since high school years and such.   I have slowly started to get into a routine and hopefully it’ll help clear up my skin.   I just started using the Loreal mud mask to see how it works out.  I managed to snag the red one to test it out.  I do like it.  It does have a strong smell but it goes away after you get used to it.  My skin feels smooth after using and I’m watching if my pores get smaller a bit or cleaner.

Right now I’m using Neutrogena® Naturals Purifying Cream Cleanser along with the Mud Mask and then for a moisturizer it’s Oil of Olay but I may change it to something else instead but I have not figured out which one yet.   Any suggestions?

Cool Artist to follow:
Check out Lord Mesa artwork   The guy is so talented!  I want to own on of his prints.   Follow him!!

Jasmine Becket-Griffith   Is another artist that I love!  She does such amazing work to her stuff.  I have a few prints of hers and one canvas print (sea turtle!!)    Follow her as well.

I love helping out other artists!  I love art.  I wish I could get better at it but the only way is to keep practicing.  That’s one my goals as well.

I close for now so I can go off to go do something artistic!

Thoughts tonight…

Current Song:   “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson

It is so hot outside here today.  Rain and hot and humid..ugh!   Although a rainbow did appear today so I made a wish on it!   Kinda  silly to do but I did it anyway!    Positivity is needed!

Today I want to tackle a few things here and there.

First up:  Reading my books….

At first I’m like thinking how the heck am I going to read all these books I have stacked up here in my house?   Second am I going to like all these books that will make me want to keep them or should I donate them or trade them?  All these questions come into my mind here.

I’m slowly getting to the books I have one by one but my reading time is limited due to working and cleaning the house and having amazing adventures with my children.   Being a single mom is not an easy task but it so worth it!  I love my children.   Anyways…by the time I get to reading I’m tired and all I want to do is watch tv but I have encouraged myself to read at least ten minutes.  Sometimes ten minutes ends up being longer.

Currently still reading:  “Forged in Ice:  Chronicles Series : Book 2”  by Alyssa Rose Ivy.  Well I have not read the first book of this series and yet I could get an idea what was going on so far.  I love how the story follows nicely from James and Ainsley’s point of view.  Supernatural elements pop up along with some witty banter between some of the characters is pretty fun.  I want to know what is going to happen next.   Plus the cover of the book is stunning!    I basically won this book on Alyssa’s Facebook page and I’m glad I did.  I never ever win anything so thank you Alyssa!

Check out Alyssa Rose  Ivy website at :  http://www.alyssaroseivy.com/

After I finish this book, I may try to get her next one or will tackle one from my to read pile that is sitting on my floor in my house!

2nd thing is:  Children books!

I spied some new children’s books at work today.

Owl diaries

These books caught my eye as they are so crisp and colorful!   The stories are cute and interesting.  I believe these would be awesome for girls to read.  I am not sure about boys but I wish they had a boy version of this too!

Then there is Mr. Pants books by Scott McCormick.

The illustrations are awesome.  Graphic novel for kids.

The OodleThunks books by Adele Griffin.

I checked out the author’s website as she seems to tackle many different areas of books.  Chapter books, middle reader and YA.

First book:  Oona has found a very special egg. Oh, how she loves her baby! She’ll do anything to protect this egg until it hatches. Then she can find out what’s inside, even though it might just gobble her up! But Oona’s precious bundle of eggy joy may never see the light of day. It seems everyone wants Oona’s egg. Her little brother, Thunk, that smelly kid, Bruce Brute, and a bunch of others in her West Wog world all want a piece of Oona’s treasure. Oona the protector, Oona the curious, Oona the mighty will do whatever it takes to safeguard her darling. No one will get their grimy, Cro-Magnony hands on her egg. Because, more than anything, Oona wants something of her very own to care for.

Stick Dog books!  I took my kids to see Tom Watson at their school as they loved this event.  Mr. Watson was great with the children and kept them interested in the books.  Great story!!

The beetles and kids join forces to rescue Mr. Cuttle and thwart Lucretia.

Third thing:  Back to work…

Going back to work isn’t easy to do.  First off finding a job isn’t easy after being a stay home mom for 8 years.  Plus on top of it I am also deaf so finding jobs with a disability is tough.  I think people are afraid that I cannot do the task and yet I can!  I just cannot hear.  I’m glad I have the part time job right now which was my goal to find a job to get some work going but I realize I need a full time job.   It’s hard to juggle the task of dream job vs reality job.   Everyone wants to go for their dream job if they could, right?

For me I’m supporting my two amazing children and I need to survive for them.  So reality wins but I will keep those dreams in my pocket.  I will never stop dreaming of getting a book published or trying to achieve those items on my bucket list.  Let’s hope something good comes my way!   (I know I want to do keep with the library field or books! )

And so it goes…Life goes on.  Owning a home on my own is even tricky!  Dealing with some minor problems to larger issues isn’t fun at all.   Life keeps throwing me curveballs.   Plumber, brick walls, basement, window issues..and the list could go?  I do not know.   I just want everything to be normal!!!    No more stuff. No more drama in life.  Simple simple!   Okay that rant it out!

PS: Gila Window Film does work well!  I used this in the small windows of my house to block out the heat & light!

4th thing: Movies!

Danish Girl –  Was way different!

Star Trek movies on tv :  Loved them!!!  Karl Urban is a favorite actor of mine for a long time. The man can play such amazing characters!    Other than the Star Trek films ( I need to see the 3rd one!)  he was also in Riddick, LOTR,  Priest, RED and Xena the Warrior Princess.   I loved how he played the evil vampire in Priest!  Yes I did watch Xena Warrior Princess  back in the day.    Who didn’t watch that show?

Chris Pine is cute too but might be a tad too young for me?   I didn’t know he was the voice of Jack Frost in The Guardians did you?

Knock Knock – Keanu Reeves was in this film as I couldn’t really watch it. Too freaky for me.   So that got turned off and I put on John Wick instead.  Constantine did pop up on tv as well as I saw the last 15 mins of it.

Miss You Already – Starting Drew Barrymore.  That film made me cry.  Oh how the tears down.   It made me think of life and death.  It is part of the cycle but it makes us ache and makes us grow.

Belle – Historical movie…was pretty good but long!

Pixels – Had Adam Sandler in it.  I don’t mind some of his movies and this was interesting regarding to the 80s old school games.  I also wanted to see if this to see if it would be suitable for my children to watch.  I get the funny humor and all but it may be a bit too much for my children.

And I close for now as I am extremely tired!

July update

It’s July!  Whoooo!  Hope everyone has an excellent July!

July 4th is a special holiday to me because it was a time just for my dad and I only.  Father and daughter bond.  I loved it and will continue to love it with my kids.  I’m passing the tradition on and I hope my kids will love it too.

Songs that have been in my head is Change by Christina Aguilera,  All of Me by John Legend with Lindsay Stirling,  and  People Like us by Kelly Clarkson.

I just recently saw a movie called “Only Lovers Left Alive” with Tom Hiddleston in it.  Vampires are what this movie was about.  It was rather fascinating to watch but felt a tad long for my liking.  I loved the guitars that were shown. There were  a few awesome lines that made me chuckle.  Check it out if you want to try something new or you are a fan of Tom Hiddleston.  I do have to admit Tom as a moody vampire is pretty hot.  There is a nude scene in it too!  The only reason I found this film was due to Anton Yelchin passing away.  (Anton Yelchin was awesome in the Star Trek movie!  RIP)

I’m still reading the one book called “Summoning” by Carol Wolf.  It’s packed with adventure of the supernatural.  Hopefully I can get that done soon.

My To Read Pile of Books keeps growing!  On Good Reads I think I have over 800 books.  I have no clue if I can accomplish that.  Books that I have read is over 400.    Plus I have tons of books sitting in my one room that needs to be read.  So hopefully after I finish “The Summoning”, I  can tackle another one.  So many books and so little time.  I think I may have to snag a page in every free moment I get.

I saw the movie God of Egypt as I thought the storyline was awesome but the cast should have been a bit more realistic in how Egypt was.  Do not get me wrong that I think Gerald Butler is amazing but it was weird seeing him casted as a God.  The whole plot was pretty amazing.   Adventure and love!  It kind of reminded me of the movie: The Mummy.  Action and adventure and love!   I much prefer Gerald Butler in Phantom of the Opeara or PS I Love You.

One more movie to mention….It’s a Hallmark movie called The Wedding March.  I got sucked into the Hallmark channel..Yes I do love romance and love and happy endings.   Anyways, this movie was pretty good.

When former college sweethearts Olivia Parsons and Mick Turner are unexpectedly reunited the weekend of Olivia’s wedding, the former couple initially locks horns but as the events of the weekend unfold, Olivia and Mick find old feelings rising to the surface. Will the bride-to-be walk down the aisle as planned or will she decide to give her first love a second chance?

On a serious note, I have too many thoughts in my head of lately.  Juggling the life of a single mother, a woman,  and a worker.  Not an easy task to do.  I’m glad I have help around when I need it but I can only imagine to those who do not have it.  It is tough!

Someone asked me once if I would ever date again.  The I told them,  “No not right now. Life is a tad busy and I have other priorities in life to tend to than dating.”

As I reflected on this question for a bit in my head I began to wonder.  I was right on the note that I would not even have the time for dating.  How and what and when would I do this?  I’m tired sometimes by 9:30 pm or 1o pm unless my night owl kicks in gear.   Then I thought about my kids thinking this would confuse the hell out of them so no way!  Then I thought about myself.   Would I ever be suitable for any normal and decent guy out there?   Would I want to snuggle and enjoy another’s company?  All these questions bouncing in my head like a beach ball.

Some days I’m like it would be nice to snuggle as other days I’m like I do not need drama.

I realized that everyone is different.  Some people need others and some people can handle being alone.   Then I realize that divorce does suck no matter what.  No matter what the situation is, it hurts.   Everyone’s situation is different.  The past few months I have know three other women in process of getting divorce.   Each of them has their reasons for it.

For me in my mind, I think divorce figures out who you are and that what your definition of a relationship is.  For me my reason is complicated.  I rather keep it private.   Although   the process of going through it:  You get mad, you then grieve and then you stand up for yourself eventually.  That’s what I went through and how I felt.   To those going through it, hang tough.  To those who have been through it, keep living!

What possessed me to write about this?  I just felt like I should say my piece in a nice way.  Things happen: whether it’s happy or sadness or an emotional roller coaster, you find something on the other side.  You live somehow.  You learn from your mistakes and you learn to reach for the better.

Everyone’s life is different.

Okay..that was pretty serious wasn’t it?   Maybe I should do a serious topic in each bit of the blog along with other bits?

I am going to end for now.  More to come soon.

Book update and more…

I know, it’ s been a long time since I have updated on what I am reading.  Life gets in the way.  Being a mother, a library worker and taking care of my house and trying to tend to my hobbies has made me spin around and fall asleep.   Life takes a path here and there. And now here are some updates…

So I did read the 3rd book – Bound by Flames (Night Prince #3) by Jeaniene Frost as it was totally epic!  I do need to get the fourth one as the author did tweet to me that it won’t be out until much later!  I have to wait.  Ohhhhhhhhh be still my heart.    I look forward to seeing her book.

I just finished Jane Vows Vengeance by Michael Thomas Ford.  The cover caught my attention at the library as it was going to the books sale.  I snagged it!  It was quite an interesting read.   Vampires, adventure, historical Jane Austen..imagination and some witty comments in there.   This is the second book as I have not read the first one.

Right now I’m currently reading “Summoning” by Carol Wolf.  This book reminds me of Vampires/Werewolves type of scene.  Not Twilight type but the story is more geared to World of Darkness type of thing.    So far I like it.  I love the main character named Amber who is a wolf shifter and can kick butt.  Her story is rather unique!

One more update: I watched “Pride and Prejudice Zombies” which was interesting.  I know the plot of Pride and Prejudice because I have read the book a few times (it’s one of my favorites!) and seen the various films of it.  The Zombie side was quite interesting and unique.   Historical with sword fighting and the action was awesome.  I loved the costumes in this movie too.    I may purchase the movie down the road.

This is a short update! I am going to try to do more updates when I can.  As I mentioned before life is busy here at times.   On that note, earlier tonight I was outside with my amazing children as the air was chilly and felt perfect to have a bonfire (sadly I do not have a fire pit or anything for that) .  Then my mind wandered to the thought of having someone to snuggle with in this chilly weather would be perfect.  Mind you, a romance relationship is the last thing on my mind.  I have other priorities in life and I thought it was interesting how this thought came to my mind tonight.  Maybe I can use this thought in writing one of my stories!

Til then….
