Books I have already read

Here are some books that I have read and enjoyed them all. I just haven’t been reviewing as much as I used to due to dealing with a thing called life.

One is contemporary friendship and romance and dealing with real life, another is historical fiction romance with banter between the two main characters and the last one is starting over again in a small town with a hot rock n roll singer.

What can I say about all these books?

I loved each story. The adventure, the romance, the real grit of life that these characters have live in.

Hope you go pick one out and read!

Love isn’t always by the book in this charming romantic comedy about a bookseller discovering how to be the main character in her story.

As a self-proclaimed book hater and a firm believer that the movie is always better, Drew Young didn’t anticipate inheriting her grandma’s bookstore, the Book Nook. She’s in way over her head even before the shop’s resident book club, comprising seven of the naughtiest old ladies ever, begin to do what they do best—meddle.

Bestselling author Jasper Williams is a hopeless romantic. When he meets Drew at his Book Nook signing event, he becomes determined to show her the beauty of reading. He curates a book bucket list in exchange for her help exploring the local Denver scene for his current manuscript. From going river rafting to trying local restaurants, Drew begins to connect with Jasper in a way she only thought happened in fiction.

When messy family ties jeopardize the future of the Book Nook, Drew is caught between a bookshelf and a hard place. She’s reminded that real life isn’t always big dreams and sweeping romance. But Jasper is the plot twist she never saw coming and he’s writing a happily ever after just for them.

Books that I have read

This is a quick update of books that I have read of 2022.

So I picked this Katee Robert’s books to see what the talk was all about. Vampires after all..you know? I have to check it out….. Well…whoah…the entire book took me off guard! It has a lot of spice in it. I’m not talking about cooking spice. The other kind of spicy side of adult things. I thought the characters were all interesting. The storyline itself kept my attention also. This is not my usual jam but I thought it was good.

All Mina ever wanted was to escape her father’s control. Half human, half vampire, she lived eternally torn between two worlds, never fully experiencing the pleasures of either―until her father chose her as the pawn in his latest political move, gifting her to the darkly powerful and dangerously seductive Malachi Zion.

Malachi is not a vampire to be trifled with. He rules with an iron fist and has a reputation for the darkest of sins. But the longer Mina spends with him, the more she realizes he’s not the monster she first thought―and as fear bleeds into lust, then trust, then something more, Malachi opens Mina up to a world she never knew could be hers for the taking: including the love of Malachi’s two closest friends and companions.

Now surrounded by all three men, the center of their shockingly seductive world, Mina may finally have the power to face down her father and take back the life―and crown―that by all rights should be hers.

Now Black Sun, I picked up because of Maude’s reading book group was talking about it. I gave it go. This was a whole new world for me. Adventure, friendships, romance and so on. It felt like epic fantasy. It took me a bit longer to read it. There was so much new worlds and languages and culture in this book. It was really really cool. Check it out!

In the holy city of Tova, the winter solstice is usually a time for celebration and renewal, but this year it coincides with a solar eclipse, a rare celestial even proscribed by the Sun Priest as an unbalancing of the world.

Meanwhile, a ship launches from a distant city bound for Tova and set to arrive on the solstice. The captain of the ship, Xiala, is a disgraced Teek whose song can calm the waters around her as easily as it can warp a man’s mind. Her ship carries one passenger. Described as harmless, the passenger, Serapio is a young man, blind, scarred, and cloaked in destiny. As Xiala well knows, when a man is described as harmless, he usually ends up being a villain.

Of course I had to read this. I finally picked it up and read it within a day. It was really good. I enjoyed the fact a vampire likes to play golf. The connection between Valerian and Natalie is really good. Relaxing and causal and fun and a bit of adventure! And vampires…of course!

Immortal Enforcer Valerian just wants to relax. His last assignment had been more grueling than he’d care to admit, and golf has always helped him unwind. The single mom is sexy as hell, and her little daughter Mia only adds to his delight. He knows Natalie is wary of a relationship of any kind…what will she think when she discovers he’s an Immortal? His best course of action is to woo her the old-fashioned way.

But the course of true love never did run smooth—especially for a vampire and a mortal. And when danger stalks Natalie, Valerian realizes he’s playing a game of life and death and if he loses this round, he risks losing her forever.

Review: A Lady’s Formula for Love

Summary:

What is a Victorian lady’s formula for love? Mix one brilliant noblewoman and her enigmatic protection officer. Add in a measure of danger and attraction. Heat over the warmth of humor and friendship, and the result is more than simple chemistry–it’s elemental.

Lady Violet is keeping secrets. First, she founded a clandestine sanctuary for England’s most brilliant female scientists. Second, she is using her genius on a confidential mission for the Crown. But the biggest secret of all? Her feelings for protection officer Arthur Kneland.

Solitary and reserved, Arthur learned the hard way to put duty first. But the more time he spends in the company of Violet and the eccentric club members, the more his best intentions go up in flames. Literally.

When a shadowy threat infiltrates Violet’s laboratories, endangering her life and her work, scientist and bodyguard will find all their theories put to the test–and learn that the most important discoveries are those of the heart.

My Review:

This book was cute! It was almost like “The Bodyguard” meets back in time era of Jane Austen with scientists. It was really fun to read. I really like Violet’s thoughts regarding to work and then when Arthur joined in as a bodyguard. Such thoughts! There was some sweet and swoony moments! This book should be made into a movie. I would totally watch it.

All the characters in this book are working their way to survive and to overcome obstacles. (Considering the fact the type of era is like 19th century.) It’s filled with danger, every day moments , friendships, relationships and just down to earth vibe as well. Plus romance! I did like Arthur’s broodiness. Just something about that! I also liked the fact Arthur was aware of Violet.

I do admit the beginning of the book was a little tough for me to get into but once I kept going I managed to enjoy the book more. I did like Arthur’s broodiness. Just something about that!

Give the book a shot to see if you like it. It was just a nice book to escape away into a new world.

What happens when two medical professionals–ex Army medic from a village in the Scottish Highlands and an inner city nurse from inner-city London—switch jobs for three months and become unlikely pen pals?

Lissa, is a nurse in a gritty, hectic London neighborhood. Always terribly competent and good at keeping it all together, she’s been suffering quietly with PTSD after helping to save the victim of a shocking crime. Her supervisor quietly arranges for Lissa to spend a few months doing a much less demanding job in the little town of Kirrinfeif in the Scottish Highlands, hoping that the change of scenery will help her heal. Lissa will be swapping places with Cormack, an Army veteran who’s Kirrinfeif’s easygoing nurse/paramedic/all-purpose medical man. Lissa’s never experienced small-town life, and Cormack’s never spent more than a day in a big city, but it seems like a swap that would do them both some good.

In London, the gentle Cormack is a fish out of the water; in Kirrinfief, the dynamic Lissa finds it hard to adjust to the quiet. But these two strangers are now in constant contact, taking over each other’s patients, endlessly emailing about anything and everything. Lissa and Cormack discover a new depth of feeling…for their profession and for each other.

But what will happen when Lissa and Cormack finally meet…?

My Review:
⊂⊃
It took me a few days to read this book.  I checked this book out from my local library.

The summary of the book is up above, I am not going to repeat it.  I think the goings back and forth between Lissa and Cormack is cute and real.  They go on new adventures and have misshaps!  I love how both characters adjust to new settings.   They are both coping with trauma and learning new things about themselves.

The texts and emails between Lissa and Cormack are cute, funny and simple. It made me smile.  Don’t you just love that type of feeling?  I did want more of this interaction and kind of felt like it needed a little more development.  It mostly focused on Lissa’s trauma and trying to cope with it.  Cormace has trauma but I did not find out more about it.  Perhaps the story will continue on in another book?

The story covered a bit of romance, with every day aspects, emotions, laughter and learning how to cope.  I love the quiet of the countryside which made me want to go there.  London makes me miss it since I have visited there once!  One day  I will visit again.

The story was just there.
I do not know how to describe it.
I enjoyed it but didn’t love it to the max.
It was just an okay, cute read to escape.

The Friend Zone Review

Friend

  • Author: Abby Jimenez
  • Print Length: 385 pages
  • Publisher: Forever
  • Publication Date: June 11, 2019
  • Sold by: Hachette Book Group

What the book is about:

Kristen Peterson doesn’t do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don’t get her. She’s also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.
Planning her best friend’s wedding is bittersweet for Kristen — especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He’s funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he’d be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it’s harder and harder to keep him at arm’s length.

My Review:

I picked this book up from my local library one night.  (Not from the one I work at.)  I decided to give it a shot to see if I would like story.    The two main characters are Kristen and Josh.  The way the book is written is from Kristen and Josh’s view points.  It took me a little while to get used to reading it that way but I enjoyed it.

Kristen has sass!  Tons of sass who doesn’t really care what others think except when she’s around her mother, she’s a tad different.  She tries to figure out things in life when it comes to dating and having kids.  She has conflict with dealing with fertility problems. That is the main concept through out the book which is a big issue for some women out there.  It might be touchy subject for those who are dealing with that kind of thing.  So if you are sensitive reading about a fiction book that mentions fertility problems, then maybe this book isn’t for you.   I can see how Kristen struggles with dealing emotionally and physically.    Just a friendly reminder: everyone in the real world is dealing with something.

Anyways I love how Kristen says what she means, cracks jokes, shocks her best friend Sloan with some things which made me laugh in the book and how she uses pop  culture references!    When Josh enters her life things change.  She tries to deny there is attraction there but it somehow trickles into her life.  The playful banter, sass and emotions between Josh and Kristen felt real to me.

Can I say I like Josh because he understands how a woman can be?  That would be due to having so many sisters! He isn’t afraid to get tampons or pads.  I think a guy like that is cool.  He also gets along with Kristen’s dog – Stuntman Mike, which is awesome.  I love that part in the book.

My emotions in this book ranged from sad to shock to sadness to surprised and to happiness!   Holy cow.  I was not expecting my emotions to go in that many directions.  There were some surprises in the book such as Kristen’s mother,  a really sad moment, and an ‘oh my god’ moment.   I really liked this book quite a bit and I’m glad I took the chance to read it.   I may read more from this author when I get a chance.
