The Rules (Project Paper Doll #1)
Author: Stacey Kade
Hardcover
Pages: 416
Published: April 23, 2013
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

Overview
1. Never trust anyone.

2. Remember they are always searching.

3. Don’t get involved.

4. Keep your head down.

5. Don’t fall in love.

Five simple rules. Ariane Tucker has followed them since the night she escaped from the genetics lab where she was created, the result of combining human and extraterrestrial DNA. Ariane’s survival—and that of her adoptive father—depends on her ability to blend in among the full-blooded humans in a small Wisconsin town, to hide in plain sight at her high school from those who seek to recover their lost (and expensive) “project.”

But when a cruel prank at school goes awry, it puts her in the path of Zane Bradshaw, the police chief’s son and someone who sees too much. Someone who really sees her. After years of trying to be invisible, Ariane finds the attention frightening—and utterly intoxicating. Suddenly, nothing is simple anymore, especially not the rules

My Take
I loved the cover! That’s what attracted me to the story. Once I read what this book was about, I decided to give it a go. The hardcover copy that I purchased was also autographed too! Yay!

The story takes place in high school and of course it has stereotypes of who’s he best in the class and such things as that. It’s told from Ariane and Zane’s point of view throughout the story which I enjoyed. You can get a real feel for Ariane and Zane are thinking and feeling. Both of them are struggling with things. For instance, Ariane constantly battles to stay under the radar and follows the rules that she is told to. Zane tries his best to be the best for his father and never seems to please him. He also misses his mother. Eventually these two meet under high school drama.

The drama in high is dealing with who’s who as your friend, bullying and surviving high school. The drama seems to be coming from Rachel, who’s a girl who wants to get everything her way no matter what the consequences are. I really did not like her at all. The story really does not go into that much into action except towards the end of the book, leaving it open for another I believe! We do learn a bit more about Adriane’s background which I found fascinating. I felt sorry of what Adriane went through and glad that she learns to stand up for herself in many ways.

Adriane and Zane together are amazing. Their witty remarks off of each other is playful and fun. They just fit nicely together. They seem to understand each other a little bit. Do they continue to be friends or no? Will Zane find out about her secret? Will Adriane end their friendship in order to be safe? What will happen?

I never read that much sci-fi genre but this one sure got my attention. Check it out today! Go pick up this book and give it a try. I could not put it down at all. I look forward to the second book. It just totally different and a bit serious on the side.

What I Wore to Save the World by Maryrose Wood

Disclaimer: I bought this book to read to give it an honest opinion!

What I Wore to Save the World (Morgan Rawlinson #3)Author: Maryrose Wood
Format: Paperback
Pages: 276
Published: December 1, 2009
Publisher: Berkley Trade

Overview:
Senior year?s coming up fast and Morgan still has no clue about college, or a career?the whole rest of-her-life thing is basically a blank. Maybe it?s because she spent her junior year obsessing about Colin, the hot Irish guy she fell for last summer (that was right around the same time she discovered she?s a half- goddess from the days of Irish lore? you had to be there). She even saved Colin from a nasty enchantment, but he doesn?t know that. Colin doesn?t believe in magic, not even a little.

But then a mysterious message reunites her with Colin, who turns out to be caught up in the biggest faery-made disaster ever. We?re talking the end of reality?not just reality TV. To save the world, she?s going to have to tell Colin the truth about her half-goddess mojo. But if he doesn?t believe in magic, how will he ever believe in her?

My Take:
Okay I bought this book not realizing it was the 3rd installment! So when I was reading it I could follow everything that was going on but it made me wonder on a few things. So after I got done with the book and looked it up on goodreads.com seeing it was the 3rd book, I thought “oh no!”

So Morgan is trying to figure out what to do with her life? As everyone else tells her to look for colleges and such, it drives her a bit crazy. Wouldn’t you feel a bit uptight with everyone getting on your case about what to do with you life? It is not an easy thing to figure out sometimes. That’s how life is. So anyways Morgan somehow ends up being interested in Oxford as it is located in England which allows her to be close to Colin. She misses him and wants to be near him. Does it go her way?

Once she travels overseas with some help of a mysterious stranger, she ends up seeing Colin and then adventure begins! She learns the world is in danger! She has to save the world by figuring out some riddles. While she is on her adventure, she tries to distract Colin from finding out what she is exactly. Does she succeed or does he find out what she is? Will he like her or not?

During her adventure she noticed things are changing and it would not be for the good. While I read this book one thing that popped out the most to me is the Unicorns! Oh my gosh..I laughed at the bits of the Unicorns! It was entertaining and fun! It will catch your attention though. Plus there are one other magical elements that popped out that I thought were neat which were the gargoyles.

Since I did not read the first two books I could easily follow this last book! It stands out on its own I believe. It has great detail and a fast paced story. I thought it was cute and whimsical! So go take a peek at the book today to see if it strikes your fancy!

Shatter Me Review

Disclaimer: I bought this book to read to give it an honest opinion!

Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1)

by Tahereh Mafi
338 pages
Published November 15th 2011
Publisher: Harper

Overview:
Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war– and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

My Review:
I must say the cover jumped right out at me as I was browsing through the bookstore one day. Once I read the synopsis, I had to get it. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down until sleep beckoned me to bed.

This is a story I will not forget. The had a great pace and was a wonderful flow with all the events that happen in this book! The story had adventure and snagged my curiosity. I wanted to know what was going to happen to Juliette. The scenes in the book as so vivid that you can picture it all in your head while you read this amazing story.

If you like superpowers or ever imagined to have them, then this book is for you! It had a touch of X-men style in it but it was different and refreshing. It made me wonder if there was any others like Juliette out there. Was that even possible? Anything is possible right? You should pick up the book to find out.

Juliette – who knows how one would react being cooped up in a cell for so long? Everyone reacts differently. For Juliette it was interesting to see how she was in a cell and outside of the cell. I think one would be hesitant to the world and how things were, wouldn’t you be that way? As for her powers, I think she’s in a state of mind of not using them because she does not want to hurt anyone which I liked. Although a part of me wonders why she did not use them to get away at times? Perhaps she needed confidence or something more to get in a good state of mind? I like her. I think maybe in the next book, she will be like this? I hope so!

Then there’s Adam who comes into the picture to somewhat help Juliette but there’s more to the story about Adam doing what he does. The whole connection with Juliette and Adam is amazing in the matters of romance and friendship. It made me smile and root them. Why not root for something good? I love Adam’s tattoos! The bird on his chest sounds amazing and I love the significance behind it.

Pick up the book today and see what you think!

Flamethroat: Fire Mage Book 2

Author: Kate Bloomfield
Publisher: Amazon
Published Date: July 28, 2012
Edition: Kindle Ebook
Pages: 300

Overview:Avalon Redding has returned to Mortlock to find her home destroyed, and her family missing. They have been taken by ‘The Realm’ for harboring an illegal human, Avalon’s sister.

Desperate to find her family, Avalon travels across the country to the Headquarters of the Realm, with Healer Jack Greenwood, and animal companion Hawthorne.

Their friendship is tested when Jack is reunited with his estranged father, and falls under a strange beauty’s spell.

Will Jack abandon Avalon during her quest? And is Hawthorne really one-of-a-kind?

My Take: The sequel! I have been waiting for this! As I read the first book a while back, it captured my attention of the adventures that Avalon goes on. The story left me wanting to know more about what happens to Avalon. Behold..Flamethroat has arrived.

As the journey continues, Avalon heads home with Jack and Hawthorne to see her parents as she finds her home destroyed. Worry, sadness and anger fuels inside of Avalon seeing her home and family gone. She wondered what to do next. Eventually she and Jack are determined to start a mission to find her family and save her sister. Another venture begins for them.

While on their journey to the Realm, Jack and Avalon run into many more energetic situations and obstacles. There is always one thing after that keeps Jack and Avalon on their toes. Some will leave you gasping and some will leave you screaming no!

The one question I had while reading this sequel was whether or not Jack and Avalon will remain as friends or become something more in the romantic department? I love how Jack and Avalon interaction is amazing. They would not leave one another unless it was something serious. Their relationship does get tested when another beauty comes into the picture. Does Jack fall for the beauty or does he remain with Avalon? You need to read this book to find out.

Of course there are some heart breaking moments in this book! One of them is when Jack meets up with his father. Emotions poured out of Jack towards his father. At first Jack was not sure to give his father a second chance but Avalon tells Jack he should just listen and gave a hint that family is important. Jack slowly takes her advice. Eventually Jack and his father reconcile.

Another part is when Avalon meets up with her parents as it was awesome that she found them but then there’s the whole adventure of getting her sister back. The action in this process was amazing as her father was still protective of Avalon even though she knows how to take care of herself. I loved how her family, Jack, herself, Hawthorne and a few others band together to fight to get their loved ones back even though there was 50/50 chance that their loved ones would not be normal again. It had me on the edge of my seat to see what was going to happen! Were they going to get their loved ones back? Was Avalon sister going to be normal or not? Who was doing this to humans?

I was also glad to see Raevyn making an appearance in this book. She’s a wonderful friend to Jack and Avalon! She is such a great character.

This book had me reading on and on which was fantastic. I could not put it down. When I did put it down, I was thinking about this story and what would happen to Jack and Avalon in their journey. There were at times in the story that I was surprised and happy with the way things went down. The book left me wanting more. So go get this book today on Amazon. Be sure to read the first book first! You won’t regret this adventurous fun filled journey with Avalon!

By the way, I personally think the cover is stunning just like the first book was!
